“The show was one of those that only the multi-talented Beckett’s can present. Three generations of this incredibly gifted family get your feet stomping and your heart warming in time with the music from their fiddles” -The SunTimes, Owen Sound.
The Beckett’s are a family band from Southwestern Ontario with traditional country and old-time fiddling roots. The band consists of fiddling siblings Tyler and Linsey, their father, John, and special guest appearances from their grandfather, Stan. This musical family has been entertaining audiences across the province for many years and strives to get your toes tappin’ with their arrangements of traditional country, bluegrass, western swing and Canadian old-time fiddling, combined with exhilarating Ottawa Valley step-dancing. The Beckett’s have opened for a variety of acts, including the late Canadian entertainer, Gordie Tapp, and Grammy-winner Charlie McCoy, and have enjoyed performing at a variety of country and folk festivals, such as the Summerfolk Arts & Crafts Festival and Music on the Barge. Filling out The Beckett’s traditional sound is an all-star band, equipped with telecaster and acoustic guitar, piano and swingin’ steel guitar.
Playing music in a family environment has allowed Tyler and Linsey to value the tradition of Old Time fiddle music, as well as nurture their own musical styles. In recent years, Tyler and Linsey have performed on numerous stages across North America, Europe and Asia, delighting audiences with their energetic fiddle styles. The duo have performed at a wide array of events, including the Canada Day Celebrations in Ottawa for the CBC, Fiddles of the World and The World Youth Day Celebrations. Tyler and Linsey are also two time Canadian Duet Fiddle Champions and three time Ontario Duet Fiddle Champions. Tyler and Linsey started touring with the Don Messer Jubilee Tribute Show in 2001, where together they performed over 200 shows across Canada. They have both had the opportunity to tour with CCMA and DCMA award winning country group, South Mountain.
Tyler has worked with several musical artists, including the award winning bluegrass group, The Chapman’s. Tyler has also established himself as a valued multi-instrumentalist, playing with Jason McCoy on a Canadian Service Tour to Afghanistan, and performing with a number of CCMA winners. Tyler currently holds the 2017 Central Bluegrass Fiddle Player of the Year Award for the fifth time.
Linsey works as a full-time musician and tours regularly with a variety of musical artists, including Charlie Major and Kelly Prescott. From 2009-2016, Linsey worked with the international string production, Bowfire. Her involvement in Bowfire led to many exciting opportunities, such as performances with the Houston, Calgary and Colorado Symphonies, Sean Connery’s 80th Birthday celebration in the Bahamas, and on the runway of New York Fashion Week’s Dressed to Kilt. Linsey continues to freelance, perform and record with a variety of traditional fiddle, country and contemporary acts.
The Beckett’s have four recordings available, “Fiddlin’ 4 Generations,” which included grandpa, Stan Beckett, and great grandpa, Elmer Beckett, “Changing Times,” “The Roots of Our Raising,” and the most recent, “The View from Here.” The Beckett’s continue to perform and host their very successful New Year’s Eve Shows at the Roxy Theatre in Owen Sound.
